1. Lady Health Workers (LHW) have been fighting for their rights of salaries, regularization since December 2009 and have held many protests nationally.
2. PML MNA Marvi Memon has been supporting their just struggle since June 3 2010 when she attended their protest at Parliament House Islamabad and was tear gassed during her hunger strike along with thousands of LHW. The dharna concluded successfully with Federal Health Minister giving Chairperson All Pakistan Lady Health Worker Employee Association Bushra Arain written Assurance of their regularization within 3 months Despite this date passing government did not honour their promises.
3. 4 Sept 2010 Supreme Court on the petition of Bushra Arain gave orders to consider LHW as labour and to minimize their pay at Rs 7000 versus the existent Rs 3200.
4. Despite this salaries were not paid and minimum wage not given. As a result there were some suicides of LHW namely the one that MNA Marvi Memon attended in Multan.
5. Next there was a dharna in Karachi infront of Governor House by LHW. MNA Marvi Memon attended that also. CM Sindh gave Bushra Arain assurance that he would get regulatization from PM for them within a week. This did not happen.
6. 23 March 2011 2am LHW reached Chowk Mari Obaro Sindh Punjab border and blocked traffic. MNA Marvi Memon was invited to this protest by them. This was their extreme resort to block traffic and to get regularization. During this protest LHW allowed ambulances and people in emergency to pass.
7. Many political parties like PML, SNP, PMLN, PTI, MQM, PPP (SB) and organizations like Vaccinator Organization, All Pakistan Paramedics, APCA have given their support and also joined the protest.
8. At midnight of 23 and 24 March male police tear gassed baton charged looted belongings, of LHW and MNA Marvi Memon. Many of them have been charged wrongfully under the Terroist Act
9. Police has impounded MNA Marvi Memon’s jeep, personal belongings, like purse mobile phone wallet etc. It has charged her personal staff who had nothing to do with protest except to protect their MNA, including driver Gul Khan, Ghulam Hussain, and Ahmed Ali under same terrorist Act and has jailed them in Sukkur.
10. Pakistan Muslim League President Chaudhry Shujat Hussain in a meeting with Marvi Memon in Lahore has condemned the maltreatment of his MNA Marvi Memon and Lady Health Workers. He has asked the Government to release MNA Marvi Marvi Memon’s 3 Personal Staff, Vehicle and personal belongings. He has asked for dropping of case against all protesters by Government. He has also asked Government to return the looted belonging of all Lady Health Workers. He has asked Government to regularize LHW immediately to give them justices.
