Marvi Memon’s address to Memon Federation youth event on July 3 2011, Karachi
• I went to the assembly for my people and I have returned for my people
• Current Assembly is a debating club where issues are not solved they are in fact created. Where political parties fight for power. Where musical chairs of opposition and treasury benches happen for vested interests versus real issues.
• In my 3 years in the assembly I fought only for real issues and causes. And these struggles will soon be available in the form of my parliamentary diaries. However, in May 2011 with PML joining a government, which had trampled the rights of my people, it became impossible to sit on the same seat and watch this charade. Therefore I took the honorable course of leaving such a seat and such a party.
• I have been overwhelmed with the respect and response for my decision from the smallest villages to the biggest cities of Pakistan.
• Perhaps the reason is because real Pakistanis, those who feel for their soil, are tired of Pakistan’s politicians ruining Pakistan’s economy and socio-political environment. They want a change. They are at tipping point. They just need to be comforted that there is a clean leadership which will give Pakistanis “Rozgar, Tahafuz, Insaaf, Taraqee”.
• That leadership will be from the people. It will live with the people, eat with them, suffer with them, laugh with them, dream with them, and progress with them. It will not be a VIP leadership which only addresses them through large jalsas. It will be accessible, available, in their streets, their fields. It will understand their pains of not having clean water to drink, their endless loadsheddingtraumas, their gas shortages, their dirty streets without proper sewerage issue. In short it will understand their daily troubles.
• The people will be all of Pakistan, without any discrimination for baradari, race, religion, political party, province, class. All under one Pakistani flag. Minus discriminations and injustices against each other. All on merit. All on the basis of Islam’s concept of humanity. Where no one is bigger than the other, where all are equal and have a right to a dignified quality of life.
• Unfortunately today’s Pakistan is a Pakistan where just yesterday:
o Supreme Court’s orders are flouted openly and officers transferred,
o where there is a drug crisis imminent likely to kill millions due to incompetence of parliament’s 18th amendment implementation committee,
o secret funds for ministries get doubled to give bribes and corruption,
o whereShamsi Airbase is still occupied by US personnel and aircrafts,
o where political parties are scrambling for power
o where ministers without portfolio continue to hog government resources
o where the poor are poorer because the corrupt are being protected and transparency reports being sabotaged
• In this Pakistan we only have one choice, to create an awareness that Pakistanis don’t have to live trampled lives, and that they have the power to get rid of such governments and bring clean ones through democratic means.
• If you dream of a Pakistan where there is “Rozgar, Tahafuz, Insaaf, Taraqee” then join the Karavan-e-Haq. This is a struggle, it has no hierarchy, no titles, its simply an ehsaas for change. It will bring all good politicians together.
• Be part of a historic struggle which will free Pakistan from fake democracy and lead it to real democracy
• The struggle will spread awareness in every corner of Pakistan that this is no way to live, no way to waste Pakistan’s resources and demographics dividend. It will prepare real Pakistanis to be the clean leadership Pakistan needs. It will discover leaders from youth, women, minorities, haris, business people, media, lawyers and professionals. They will save Pakistan. Not the usual politicians who have been hogging assembly seats for over 63 years.
• The struggle will make an alternative government plan for each one of the priorities. The Karavan-e-haq is not about dreamers but about dooers who know how to fix Pakistan:
Karavan-e-Haq’s Plan of Action
Good Governance
1. Rule of law: fix thanakutchery- beef up judiciary to deliver fast and accessible justice to all- strengthen/depoliticize police- build an automated accountability mechanism for corruption
